Kollektiv Turmstrasse

Kollektiv Turmstrasse is the German production and live act founded in 1999 by Nico Plagemann and Christian Hilscher in a shared apartment on Turmstrasse in Wismar, from which the project took its name. Influenced early on by the sound of Basic Channel, the duo released their first official track on the 2001 compilation Team Battle Vol. 2 via Electronic Parliament, then issued their debut album Verruckte Welt in 2006 on their own netlabel, No Response.

Their sound evolved from melodic minimal techno into a broader house style incorporating breakbeat, hip hop, indie pop, and electronica influences, a shift audible across their subsequent singles and EPs for labels including Ostwind Records, Musik Gewinnt Freunde, Diynamic Music, and Connaisseur Recordings. Their second album, Rebellion der Traumer, followed in 2010. The pair performed together as a live act for over two decades, a format that combined studio production with hands-on performance for club and festival crowds, before Hilscher departed the project, a split that was confirmed publicly in 2023 following the duo's 2021 breakup.

Plagemann, based near Hamburg, has since continued Kollektiv Turmstrasse alone, releasing Unity of Opposites via Not Sorry Music in 2023 and keeping the live-performance format that defined the project's identity.
