Kai Tracid
Kai Tracid, born Kai Franz in Frankfurt, took his stage name from a portmanteau of trance and acid, the two styles that defined his breakthrough productions from the late 1990s onward. He became a fixture of Germany's trance scene with his debut single "Your Own Reality," then achieved wider international recognition in 1998 with "Liquid Skies," a track that helped define the hard trance sound of the period. His single "Life Is Too Short" reached number 9 on the German charts in 2001, followed by "4 Just 1 Day" at number 12 in 2002, cementing his run of Top-10 domestic hits.
Tracid released material under his own imprints, Tracid Traxxx and Tracid Digital, alongside a long list of production aliases including A*S*Y*S, Warmduscher and Mac Acid, reflecting an extensive catalogue built across the trance and hard trance underground. He stepped away from music in 2009 to co-found the Balance Yoga center, marking an extended hiatus from touring and production. In February 2020 he announced his return with "DT64," a collaboration with fellow producer Moguai, followed by "Freedom of Expression" with A*S*Y*S the same year.
His catalogue includes the albums Skywalker 1999, Trance & Acid and Contemplate (The Reason You Exist), the foundation of a career built on club and festival trance sets across Germany and beyond.
