Julio Bashmore
Julio Bashmore is the performing name of Mathew Stephen Walker, a Bristol-born DJ and producer who has run releases through his own label alongside a house-focused production career combining UK bass elements with disco and house structures. His breakthrough came when Claude VonStroke's Dirtybird label scheduled one of his tracks for a 2009 EP release, a placement that helped establish Bashmore within the wider house scene beyond his Bristol home base.
Following years of DJ bookings and remix work, he released Bubblin in 2024 through Local Action, his first single under the Julio Bashmore name in eight years, marking a return after an extended gap since 2015's Knockin' Boots. As a DJ, Bashmore has continued to draw on the eclectic blend of house and disco reflected in his production catalogue, with his sets built around the UK bass-inflected house sound that defined his earlier releases.
His label work alongside his own recording career has kept him tied to Bristol's broader dance music scene, a city known for its bass-heavy strain of house and garage. Bashmore's return single after a lengthy hiatus signaled renewed activity following years of comparatively sparse solo output.
