About Josh Wink
Joshua Winkelman, known as Josh Wink, is an American DJ and producer from Philadelphia who began mixing as a teenager after apprenticing with a local radio and mobile DJ, teaching himself to blend records before starting to play nightclubs at 18. He became a pioneering figure in the early 1990s American rave scene and built a style mixing breakbeat, acid house, drum and bass and experimental production, describing his work as built around tension and mistake theory.
In 1994 he co-founded the label Ovum Recordings with fellow DJ King Britt, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018 and has released hundreds of tracks, including his own "Aries in Mars," the label's 300th release. His singles "Don't Laugh, I'm Ready," recorded as Size 9, and "Higher State of Consciousness" both topped dance charts in 1995, with "I'm Ready" reaching number one on the U.S.
Hot Dance Club Play chart. He has released numerous DJ mix albums under the Profound Sounds series and has remained an early adopter of DJ technology, notably Final Scratch, across a touring and mixing career that continues to run alongside his production work and Ovum's ongoing release schedule.
