Jaguar Skills
Jaguar Skills, born Matthew David Carter, is a British DJ known since 2002 for multi-genre, cut-and-paste style mixes spanning hip hop, drum and bass, dubstep, and house. He began DJing at the East London arts bar Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes, an early residency that led fashion label Maharishi to commission a mixtape CD, which he created, looped, and cut using two mini Sony Walkman devices. Jade Jagger later invited him to become a resident at her Jezebel parties in Ibiza, Russia, and Hong Kong, expanding his profile into international club bookings. He has released hundreds of mixtapes, including 1979-2006: A Hip-Hop Odyssey, an 800-track hip hop mix compressed into 45 minutes, and has had his mixes broadcast through BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra, plus a weekly ten-minute segment on The Trevor Nelson Show. Jaguar Skills continues to perform mashup-heavy sets at UK venues and festivals, including a 2025 date at The Forum in Royal Tunbridge Wells, keeping his rapid-fire, multi-genre mixing technique at the center of a career built on mixtapes and radio exposure rather than original productions alone.
