Jack Beats is an English electronic duo from London, formed in 2007 by DJ Plus One, born Niall Dailly, of the Scratch Perverts and Beni G, born Ben Geffin, of the Mixologists. Dailly won the DMC World DJ Championships in 2001 and was formerly a DJ on London's Kiss radio station, while Geffin brought his own turntablist background from the Mixologists crew. The pair built a following playing club nights and festivals including Coachella, Glastonbury, Fuji Rock, Electric Daisy Carnival and Sonar, developing a sound built around wobbling basslines, big breakdowns and chopped-up a cappella vocals.
British DJs Kissy Sell Out and Hervé championed the duo early on the electro scene, helping their sets reach wider club audiences. They released music through labels including Owsla, Rinse, Night Bass and Columbia Records, and toured regularly with the Scratch Perverts crew that Dailly is also affiliated with. From 2015 Jack Beats largely continued as Geffin's solo vehicle for live shows, sometimes joined on stage by collaborators such as AC Slater, head of the Night Bass label the act frequently released on, or producer Dillon Nathaniel.
No formal explanation for the format change has been issued by either member, but the Jack Beats name and back catalogue, including the EPs Careless and Somebody to Love, remain active in club sets today.
