Hybrid
Hybrid is the UK breakbeat and drum and bass act of Mike Truman, Chris Healings and vocalist Charlotte James, closely associated with the Distinctive Records label out of London, where the group's early work helped define the breaks sound the label became known for alongside acts such as Way Out West and Ils. Hybrid's DJ and live sets combined orchestral and cinematic elements with breakbeat production, a fusion that carried the act through club and festival dates internationally during the breaks scene's late-1990s and 2000s peak. The group's crossover into electronic rock territory, including work such as The Drop, extended their reach beyond straight dancefloor sets into remix and soundtrack territory, further building their profile among DJs programming breakbeat and electronic rock crossover sets. Distinctive Records, founded in 1995 as a sublabel of Avex UK, served as the group's home base and a hub connecting Hybrid to the wider Distinctive Breaks roster. Their catalogue continues to be referenced within breakbeat and progressive breaks DJ circles as a touchstone of the genre's UK lineage from that era.
