Hector
Hector is a Mexican DJ and producer from Guadalajara whose path into dance music began after English exchange students introduced him to Fabric compilations by Craig Richards, Terry Francis and Slam, a discovery that redirected him away from a football career with Club Atlas cut short by a knee injury. He moved to London at 18, working as a bartender and waiter while spending his wages on the vinyl he heard in the city's clubs, and eventually built a production and DJ career that has taken him through labels including Mobilee, Tsuba, Phonica and Desolat, as well as his own imprints, VL Recordings and VLACK. Now based in Barcelona, Hector has continued to tour internationally while staying connected to his hometown, a relationship documented in a Mixmag feature on his return to Guadalajara years after leaving as a teenager. His story, from a football pitch in Guadalajara to London record stores and on to European house labels, has made him a notable example of a DJ whose international career began far from any major electronic music hub. He remains active on the techno and house circuit associated with the Desolat label and its affiliated artists.
