Hard Rock Sofa

Hard Rock Sofa are Alexander Shapovalov and Denis Chepikov, a Russian production and DJ duo formed in Smolensk in 2005, originally as a trio alongside Sergey Zuev before settling into its better-known two-person lineup. The act built its profile through signings to Axtone, the label run by Axwell of Swedish House Mafia, and Size Records, associated with Steve Angello, placing Hard Rock Sofa within the progressive house network that dominated European festival main stages in the early 2010s.

Their collaborations with fellow Russian duo Swanky Tunes produced some of their best-known club tracks, cuts that anchored sets for both acts on the international festival circuit during that period. Hard Rock Sofa's sound, rooted in big-room and progressive house, was built for peak-time festival slots typical of the Axtone and Size rosters they were associated with.

Shapovalov departed the project around 2014 to 2015 to pursue a solo career under the name Shapov, narrowing Hard Rock Sofa's activity as the pair's joint touring wound down. Their run through the Axtone and Size label ecosystem placed Hard Rock Sofa among the notable Russian exports of the progressive and big-room house scene that flourished on European festival stages in the early part of the 2010s.
