About Green Velvet
Green Velvet is Curtis Alan Jones, a Chicago-born DJ and producer also known as Cajmere who founded the labels Cajual Records and Relief Records, both central to the 1990s revival of Chicago house music and to the sets he has played across three decades. His club nights branded La La Land, held in Los Angeles and Miami, extend his DJ identity into a recurring party series rather than one-off bookings, giving him a consistent platform to showcase house and techno selections.
Jones was voted Best DJ at DJ Mag's Best of North America Awards in 2022, a recognition of his sustained relevance on the American house and techno circuit long after his earliest Cajmere-era hits. Onstage, Green Velvet is known for his green mohawk visual persona, a distinctive presentation that has become closely tied to his live sets and helped separate his performing identity from his production work under the Cajmere name.
His labels have served as launch points for numerous Chicago house artists over the years, with tracks from both imprints regularly featuring in his own festival and club sets. Jones' career spans from the warehouse party scene of early-1990s Chicago to major international festival stages, with his continuing label work and club residencies keeping him active as both a tastemaker and touring DJ well into the 2020s.
