Gerd Janson

Gerd Janson is a German house and disco DJ who began his first residency at Café Kesselhaus in Darmstadt in 1998 before moving into Frankfurt's dance scene. He later co-hosted the long-running Liquid club nights at Robert Johnson with DJ Thomas Hammann, a partnership documented on a live recording released through Running Back, the Frankfurt-based label he co-founded in 2002 with Thorsten Scheu, known as Glance.

Resident Advisor and Mixmag both describe him as a DJ who travels internationally while maintaining an eclectic, crate-digging approach that spans house and disco eras, a style shaped early on by nights spent at Mannheim's Milk Club and Frankfurt's Wild Pitch Club. His mix credentials include a Fabric compilation, Fabric 89, alongside various Running Back-affiliated mix releases, and he is frequently characterized in the press as a DJ's DJ respected for unearthing overlooked tracks.

Janson grew up near Frankfurt after being born in Romania, and his combined role as label boss, journalist, and touring DJ has kept Running Back central to European house culture for over two decades. His career blends club residencies, festival dates, and a reputation for deep record knowledge that continues to define his presence on bills worldwide.
