About Gene Farris

Gene Farris is a Chicago house DJ and producer whose career stretches back to underground warehouse parties in the early 1990s. He built his name playing Chicago clubs alongside the city's house scene before releasing his 1994 debut single "Summer Affair" on Cajual and Relief Records, labels run by Cajmere.

Farris later founded his own imprint, Farris Wheel Recordings, issuing releases such as "The Copa Cabana," which reportedly sold more than 25,000 copies worldwide, and continuing with tracks like "Sanctified Love" and "Welcome to Chicago" on Defected Records in the early 2000s. Over nearly three decades he has played warehouse parties, clubs and festivals, with his DJ sets and productions championed by labels including Dirtybird, ViVa Music and Toolroom.

His sound draws on disco and funk influences layered over the driving four-to-the-floor rhythms typical of Chicago house, distinguishing his sets and productions from more strictly house-focused peers. He remains an active touring DJ, performing at clubs and festivals internationally while continuing to release new material through his own label and other house imprints, maintaining momentum from a catalogue of more than 100 productions and six studio albums released over his career to date.
