Gareth Emery

Gareth Thomas Rhys Emery is a British trance and progressive house DJ born in Southampton and based in Los Angeles. He made his debut vinyl release in early 2002, and Paul van Dyk premiered his breakthrough GTR track Mistral on the radio during Nature One Festival that year. Emery's DJ Magazine Top 50 run extended from 2006 to 2013, peaking at seven in 2010, but he later criticized the poll's reliance on large marketing budgets and asked supporters not to vote for him in 2013, directing his own marketing budget to charity.

His sets and projects combine trance and progressive house with large-scale visual design. Laserface used more than 100 lasers at venues including the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, while LSR/CITY brought synchronized lasers, 3D digital environments and live performance into the same presentation. He has also operated as a label and venue builder, co-owning Five AM from 2003 to 2008 and founding Garuda as both a Manchester nightclub and record label.

His tracks have repeatedly connected with the A State of Trance audience: Sanctuary was voted the second-biggest track of 2010, Concrete Angel with Christina Novelli became Tune of the Year, and Bryan Kearney's remix of U received the same honor in 2014. Across club records, visual live shows and Garuda, Emery has developed a distinctly expansive trance identity.
