Freq Nasty — Breakbeat DJ & Producer

FreQ Nasty, born Darin Alexander McFadyen in Fiji and raised in New Zealand, is a breakbeat DJ and producer who came up on the UK label Botchit & Scarper in 1998 and is widely regarded as a pioneer of the genre's initial rise. He held a residency at London's Fabric, one of the city's most influential clubs, and built a reputation as a fixture on the North American festival and rave circuit, drawing on influences from ragga, hip-hop, dancehall, funk and reggae to shape his heavy-bassline sound. His 2011 release Dread at the Controls launched the seventeen-date Monsters of Bass tour, and he has toured extensively across Europe and Australia over a career now spanning more than two decades. Though the UK breakbeat scene of the late '90s and early 2000s remains his foundation, FreQ Nasty is now based in Los Angeles, California, from where he continues to perform and produce. His path from Fabric residency to global touring circuit places him among the artists who carried UK breakbeat culture onto international stages, and his catalogue remains a reference point for DJs still mixing that sound today.
