Fisher
Paul Nicholas Fisher, known as FISHER, is an Australian DJ whose house and tech-house sets grew out of an unusual earlier career as a professional surfer. He competed on the World Surf League Qualifying Series and, while travelling the surfing circuit, formed the DJ duo Cut Snake with fellow surfer Leigh Sedley. Fisher left professional surfing in 2012 to pursue music full-time, bringing that freewheeling background into a high-energy, crowd-focused dancefloor approach.
His first solo single, Ya Kidding, arrived in 2017, followed that year by the Oi Oi EP on Dirtybird. The 2018 tracks Crowd Control and Losing It established the direct, driving club sound with which he became closely identified. Losing It became a major crossover moment and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording in 2019.
His DJ profile has remained rooted in house and tech house, favouring tracks with a forceful, communal pull. Alongside his solo work, he has released through Dirtybird and Catch & Release, including the 2020 Freaks EP. FISHER's journey from the surf tour to electronic music has given his DJ persona a distinctively informal, energetic character.
