Jeffrey Travis Abel, known as Excision, is a Canadian DJ from Kelowna, British Columbia, and a pioneer of the North American dubstep scene. Active since 2006, he released his first single, Warning, in 2007 and has spent more than 17 years touring across bass music. His DJ sets span dubstep, riddim, drumstep, drum and bass and related bass-focused EDM, with a performance approach built for maximum physical impact. He was called bass music's loudest DJ in 2012 while touring with a 100,000-watt sound system, increased to 150,000 watts in 2014.
Excision's shows combine massive subwoofer stacks, stadium-filling lasers and pyrotechnics. He has headlined EDC Las Vegas, Ultra, Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza and Shambhala, and founded his own festivals, Lost Lands in 2017, Bass Canyon and the beach-resort event Paradise Blue. His branded Excision Presents concerts include The Thunderdome in Seattle, The Armory in Minneapolis, Mile High in Denver and The Stadium in Los Angeles. Abel founded Rottun Recordings and later Subsidia Records in 2020; Subsidia has released music from more than 100 producers.
In 2022 he launched the Bass Music Initiative, backing ten emerging bass artists with funding and support. His DJ identity joins high-volume live production with a commitment to growing the bass-music ecosystem.
