Evol Intent
Evol Intent is a hardstep drum and bass group formed in 2000 across Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia, composed of Ashley Jones (The Enemy), Nick Weiller (Knick), and Mike Diasio (Gigantor). The trio built its reputation through its own label, Evol Intent Recordings, alongside releases on Dieselboy's Human Imprint and Barcode Recordings, and by headlining multiple installments of the Therapy Sessions drum and bass event series.
In 2005, the group contributed a continuous DJ mix to the second disc of Dieselboy's compilation The Human Resource, showcasing their programming skills within the American drum and bass scene. A year later, producer Submerged selected Evol Intent for a drum and bass-jazz fusion project alongside Grammy-winning bassist Bill Laswell, resulting in the track “Pattern Engine,” featuring improvisation from NEA Jazz Masters saxophonist Dave Liebman, released on the Method of Defiance album Inamorata.
The group's 2008 debut album, Era of Diversion, displayed range across drum and bass subgenres, punk rock, and IDM. Individually, members have built parallel production careers: Jones as Treasure Fingers, Diasio as Computer Club, and Weiller as Bro Safari, whose moombahton, trap, and dubstep work has extended the group's reach into adjacent scenes while Evol Intent continues as a unit.
