Phantasy

Phantasy is the DJ and label identity built around English DJ and producer Erol Alkan, who founded the Phantasy Sound imprint in 2007 after establishing himself through London's indie-club circuit. Alkan began DJing in 1993, first appearing publicly at The Gass Club in Leicester Square, before becoming a resident of the club night Going Underground in 1995, which he relaunched in 1997 as Trash, a night that ran until 2007 and hosted early sets from LCD Soundsystem, Peaches, Klaxons and Bloc Party among others. His dance-music-focused DJ career expanded from 2001 through his association with Bugged Out, which offered him a residency after he filled in for David Holmes at Fabric, and his club sets there and elsewhere earned him Muzik magazine's Best Breakthrough DJ award in 2003 and Mixmag's DJ of the Year in 2006. Through Phantasy Sound, Alkan has released his own material, including the Illumination EP in 2013, Spectrum in 2018 and Automatic in 2021, the label's hundredth release, while also producing acts such as Late of the Pier and Mystery Jets and remixing Daft Punk, Tame Impala and Justice. Alkan continues to DJ internationally under the Phantasy banner while running the label from his North London studio.
