About Marky

DJ Marky, born Marco Antonio da Silva in Sao Paulo in 1973, has been a defining figure in drum and bass since starting out in 1992. A trip to London in 1997 connected him with DJ Hype and Goldie, and after being spotted playing a Sao Paulo club in 1998 by V Recordings boss Bryan Gee, he was invited to perform in the UK, launching an international career. He went on to hold residencies at Movement and The End in London and worked with BBC Radio 1, delivering a two-hour Essential Mix in March 2004 that remains a landmark in his catalogue.

He headlined Lovebox Festival in Victoria Park in 2006 and, in 2012, was a special guest at Norman Jay MBE's Good Times Sound System stage at Notting Hill Carnival. UK music critics named him Best New DJ in 1999, early recognition of the Brazilian drum and bass sound he helped forge internationally alongside DJ Patife, XRS Land and Drumagick. Signed to Innerground Records, Marky's sets blend jungle-rooted breaks with Brazilian rhythmic influences, a combination that carried the genre's UK scene to new international audiences.

His ongoing residencies and festival dates continue to anchor drum and bass's global touring circuit more than three decades after his career began.
