DJ Deep — Deep House DJ & Label Founder

DJ Deep, born Cyril Étienne in Paris, is a French deep house DJ and producer whose career began after hearing the Jungle Brothers' “I'll House You,” which drew him into Paris's small house party scene of 1988 and 1989. That scene brought him into contact with Laurent Garnier, who invited him to mix alongside him at clubs including Le Boy and La Luna, launching Étienne's DJ career. He became France's leading ambassador for deep house and New York-style garage through a residency at the Rex Club, where he ran the Wake Up and Legends nights, and at Le Queen, home to the Respect parties, while also hosting weekly radio shows on Radio FG between 1992 and 1996 and later on Radio Nova from 1997 onward. As a producer, DJ Deep debuted on Fnac Music Dance Division alongside Ludovic Navarre under the name Deep Contest, later forming The Deep with Julien Jabre on Basenotic Records. He went on to found the label Deeply Rooted House, extending his influence over deep house releases beyond his own DJ sets, and his combination of club residencies, radio programming, and label work has made him a central figure connecting the French and American deep house traditions since the early 1990s.
