Disclosure, the English duo of brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, delivered their first Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 on 10 August 2013, a two-hour exclusive session that featured new tracks from Breach, Friend Within and Dusky alongside a tribute to Detroit producer J Dilla. The brothers cut their teeth on house and garage before their pop-facing breakthrough, and their DJ sets have continued to draw on that foundation, later documented on the DJ-Kicks mix series entry credited to the duo. Rather than standing behind a laptop, Guy and Howard Lawrence built a reputation for incorporating live instrumentation, including a Roland Gaia synthesizer, into their DJ and live sets, blurring the line between DJ performance and live production. Their Fact Mix 327, recorded in April 2011, was later cited among the most influential mixes of the 2010s, reflecting Disclosure's early standing within the UK bass and house DJ scene before their mainstream chart success.
