Deadmau5
Joel Thomas Zimmerman, known as deadmau5, is a Canadian DJ from Niagara Falls, Ontario, recognized for instrumental progressive house, electro house and techno performances as Testpilot. He rose to prominence through Beatport sales beginning in 2008 and built an immediately recognizable stage identity around the mau5head helmet. His typical progressive-house material sits around 128 BPM, and the helmet became a consistent visual marker whether he was playing expansive live stages or club rooms.
He debuted his Cube stage production at Coachella in 2010, later headlined Lollapalooza in 2011, and has appeared at EDC Las Vegas, HARD Summer and Freaky Deaky. His venue history includes Amnesia Ibiza, E11EVEN Miami, Wet Republic Ultra Pool, The Guvernment, Le Liebe, Motion Bristol and The Palladium. Zimmerman founded mau5trap in 2007 and made the label fully independent in October 2015, extending his role beyond his own sets.
He has received seven Grammy nominations and four Juno Awards, and was the first EDM act to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone. Across his helmeted progressive-house shows and techno work as Testpilot, deadmau5 has maintained a performance style that is both technically focused and immediately identifiable.
