Dave Tipper
Dave Tipper, born David Alexander Tipper in Wimbledon, London, was discovered DJing in a London nightclub as a teenager by future manager Richie Warren, who went on to found Fuel Records and build the touring Fuel Sound System, a pair of subwoofer-loaded Dodge Challengers used at festivals and parties. Tipper released his first vinyl EPs in 1997 and signed to Sony UK's Higher Ground label, where his 1999 debut album The Critical Path proved more artistic than the breakbeat record the label expected, ending in an amicable split.
He became a pioneering figure in nu skool breaks and later glitch hop, with his albums Tip Hop and Wobble Factor helping to define the latter movement, particularly in the United States. Health problems curtailed his touring from 2008 and led to mitral valve repair surgery in 2013, after which he continued performing, becoming a frequent headliner at Burning Man and curating the recurring Tipper & Friends events at venues including New Orleans's Saenger Theatre and Florida's Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park.
He announced his retirement plans in February 2024 and played what is understood to be his final show at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater on September 21, 2025. Tipper established his own label, Tippermusic, in 2005 and became widely respected for his surround-sound composition work.
