About Dave Clarke

Dave Clarke, born David Maurice Clarke on September 19, 1968, in Brighton, is an English techno DJ, producer, and radio presenter nicknamed The Baron of Techno by BBC broadcaster John Peel. Interested in music and technology from age eight, Clarke moved out of his family home at 16 following his parents' separation, taking low-paying jobs in shoe shops to subsidize badly paid local DJ gigs while pursuing his involvement in music. His debut release arrived in 1990 on XL Recordings under the alias Hardcore, a name he later carried to the Belgian techno label R&S for a series of EPs, some released as Directional Force.

By 1992, his own label, Magnetic North, was active, issuing the track Alkaline 3dh under the alias Fly By Wire. A further career milestone came with the Red trilogy released on Bush Records in the 1990s. Clarke relocated from Brighton to Amsterdam, a move he has described as revitalizing both his life and his work, and he continues to host a long-running radio presenting role alongside his club and festival DJ bookings.

His archival release project, Archive One, reflects a career built from badly paid early DJ gigs through to a sustained international touring and broadcasting presence within the techno scene.
