Darren Styles

Darren Styles, born Darren James Mew in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, entered the UK rave scene in February 1992 at Oscar's Nightclub on Clacton Pier and released his first records in 1993 as part of DJ Force & The Evolution. He found early success as one half of Force & Styles, and by 1996 the duo was DJing every weekend across the UK while touring Australia, North America and Ibiza; they formed their own label, UK Dance Records, in 1995. In the early 2000s Styles began producing more trance-influenced material with Mark Brady as Styles & Breeze, before launching his solo career around 2002 and founding Junkbox Records in 2006. His collaborations have spanned multiple aliases, including United in Dance with Dougal and Gammer and vocal work on Unique's 1998 track Feelin' Fine, reflecting his consistent presence across UK hardcore, happy hardcore and hardstyle scenes over three decades. Styles' trajectory, from Clacton Pier raves through Force & Styles' international touring years to his solo hardstyle-leaning output, tracks the broader evolution of UK happy hardcore into the harder, faster hardstyle sound that later found a wider European festival audience.
