About Cristian Varela

Cristian Varela is a Madrid-born techno DJ who began mixing in 1986 and secured his first residency at Porsche Club Madrid in 1992 before moving on to the influential Attica club, positioning him among the earliest DJs to build a career around Spain's developing techno scene. He hosts a weekly radio show broadcast through Bloop London Radio that is syndicated across more than a hundred stations in over fifty countries, extending his reach well beyond his home club circuit.

Varela founded the label Black Codes Experiments in 2003 as an outlet for the tougher techno sound he plays in his sets, and he has marked career milestones with technical showcases such as a six-turntable set staged for Technics' 60th anniversary. His long residency history and decades-long radio presence have made him one of the reference points for Spanish techno, a scene he has been credited with helping establish alongside a handful of contemporaries from Madrid's early rave circuit.

Varela continues to tour internationally, appearing at clubs and festivals that programme techno for underground audiences, while maintaining his radio show as a consistent showcase for new tracks entering his sets. Active for roughly four decades behind the decks, Varela remains one of the longest-running names in Spain's techno DJ scene.
