Cosmic Gate is a German trance duo formed in 1999 by Claus Terhoeven, also known as Nic Chagall, and formerly Stefan Bossems, known as DJ Bossi, both from Krefeld, Germany. Their breakthrough single Fire Wire, released in the UK in 2001, helped move the duo from obscurity into the international trance touring circuit, following earlier tracks including The Drums, Exploration of Space and a remix of Somewhere Over the Rainbow built on samples from The Wizard of Oz.
Cosmic Gate entered DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll at number 19 in 2009, forty-three places above their prior year's ranking, before moving to number 24 in 2010, reflecting a rapid rise driven by their touring schedule as much as their catalogue. The duo has remixed artists including Tiësto, Ferry Corsten, Blank & Jones and Vanessa-Mae, work that circulated widely through other DJs' sets and radio shows.
Since 2014 they have hosted Wake Your Mind Radio, a weekly trance podcast that has become their main platform for reaching fans between tour dates, and in 2015 they collaborated with Armin van Buuren on the track Embargo. Their sound has shifted over time from harder trance toward a more subtle, progressive trance style, particularly since their album Earth Mover.
