Christian Smith is a Swedish techno DJ and producer, founder of the Tronic label in 1994, and is listed under Brazil, reflecting his time based in São Paulo. He spent much of his childhood in Frankfurt, Germany, where frequenting Sven Väth's Dorian Gray residency shaped his early taste in club music, before moving to New York in 1989 and discovering the city's techno scene alongside house nights at venues like The Limelight.
After finishing high school in 1992, he moved to Washington, D.C. to study international business and began DJing there, playing raves in Washington and Baltimore to crowds of up to 3,000 as the genre shifted from hard trance into the funkier techno and house fusion that became his trademark.
Smith hosts Tronic Radio, a weekly show now syndicated across more than 100 stations worldwide, and tours constantly, holding regular Tronic label parties in cities including London, Miami, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Amsterdam, New York and Madrid. He plays yearly at Richie Hawtin's Enter events in Ibiza and has hosted the Privilege Terrace there, releasing albums including Stranger Than Paradise (2014) and Input-Output (2016) on his own label, whose 200-plus releases rank among the top-selling techno catalogues on Beatport.
