Charlie May
Charlie May is a British DJ, engineer and producer best known as one half of progressive house pioneers Spooky, the Manchester duo he formed with Duncan Forbes, active from 1992 to 1997 and again from 2002 to 2011. Spooky began recording for William Orbit's Guerilla label in the early 1990s after Orbit discovered the pair, releasing the influential Gargantuan album, a record widely credited with helping lay the groundwork for what became UK progressive house and, by extension, trance. Beyond his work in Spooky, May built a parallel reputation as the engineer and producer behind many of Sasha's biggest singles and albums, giving him a hand in shaping some of the era's most recognized progressive house records from the studio side. He has continued as a solo producer and DJ, sharing mixes on SoundCloud including sets recorded for Proton Radio, and Sonic Academy has featured him presenting video tutorials on production techniques, reflecting his standing as both a working DJ and an educator within house music. May's decades-long presence across performing, engineering and teaching roles has kept him connected to the UK dance scene's progressive house lineage since its earliest days.
