Champagne Drip

Champagne Drip is the dubstep-focused project of Los Angeles producer and DJ Sam Pool, who spent over a decade performing as SPL before launching this newer incarnation. Insomniac's artist profile frames the Champagne Drip name as born from a philosophy that innovation grows out of inspiration, a description tied to Pool's transition from drum and bass, dubstep and trap-oriented material under his earlier alias into the heavier, bass-driven sound he plays under Champagne Drip today.

He is signed to Deadbeats, the label and touring brand founded by Zeds Dead, and has released material there including sample packs marketed under the name The Sound of Drip Hop, distributed through Splice. His studio albums Shock Therapy and Shades of Gray anchor a catalogue of aggressive, hard-hitting dubstep productions that form the core of his live DJ sets.

In an open Reddit AMA, Pool described picking the Champagne Drip name after a joking reference during a hangover, a lighter origin story for a project defined by heavy, wobble-laden bass in performance. His path from a decade-long run as SPL to his current identity reflects a common trajectory among bass-music producers who rebrand mid-career while carrying an established DJ fanbase forward.
