Bt
BT, born Brian Wayne Transeau in Rockville, Maryland, is an American musician, producer, and DJ active since 1989, whose early career helped establish trance and intelligent dance music as genres that fed into later EDM. Working under early aliases including Prana, Elastic Chakra, and GTB, he built a catalogue spanning trance, progressive house, breakbeat, glitch, and orchestral composition alongside his electronic work.
In 2012 he began hosting Laptop Symphony on SiriusXM, a radio program built around live laptop performances ranging across dubstep, drumstep, progressive, and trance, and he followed it in 2013 with a second SiriusXM program, Skylarking, on the network's Electric Area channel. Although BT has stated that he does not consider himself a traditional DJ given his eclectic background and infrequent record spinning, his radio residencies and genre-spanning mix programming represent a sustained broadcast presence within electronic music.
His production work has also extended into film composition, and his early trance and breakbeat productions remain reference points for the genre's development through the 1990s and 2000s. BT continues to record and broadcast, maintaining an audience built over more than three decades of genre-crossing electronic music work.
