About Ben Sims
Ben Sims is a British techno DJ whose career stretches back to the early 1990s, built around a stripped-back, groove-driven take on the genre. He co-founded the club night and label Machine with Kirk Degiorgio, a platform devoted exclusively to new, forward-looking techno, and runs his own label Symbolism, launched in 1999 at Nottingham's Marcus Garvey Centre.
Sims hosts a monthly three-hour show, Run It Red, on NTS Radio, using the slot to showcase upcoming tracks and unreleased material from his own network of producers. He has spent more than two decades touring as a DJ across Europe and beyond, with recorded sets and guest mixes circulating widely, including a 2019 guest appearance on Vince Watson's Radio Drama show.
His reputation rests on functional, no-frills selection rather than spectacle, favoring tracks built for extended, hypnotic sets over quick peak-time drops. Sims has remained closely tied to the London and Nottingham techno circuits throughout his career, balancing DJ residencies, label curation and radio broadcasting as parallel strands of the same long-running practice within underground techno.
