Barem

Barem, real name Mauricio Barembuem, is a minimal techno DJ and producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He grew up playing guitar in rock bands before turning to electronic music, drawn in by loops built on a laptop and vinyl from labels including 7th City, Plus8, Perlon, and Minus. Early gigs were scarce in Buenos Aires' emerging techno scene, but his 2005 EP Kleine, released on the free netlabel Unfoundsound, caught the attention of touring DJs, with the track Suki later reissued on vinyl by Phonocult.

That momentum carried him to Unfoundsound's parent label Foundsound for his 2006 vinyl EP Campo Madness. His relationship with Richie Hawtin's Minus label began after the pair met in Buenos Aires in November 2005, resulting in Barem's track Opal appearing on the label's Min2Max compilation. A non-stop touring schedule across the United States and Europe followed as demand grew for his live sets, culminating in a debut EP for Minus at the end of 2007 that consolidated his position in the minimal techno circuit.

Barem's sound draws on the deep, hypnotic aesthetics associated with the Minus roster, and his club dates have kept him active on the international techno touring circuit for close to two decades.
