Astral Projection is an Israeli psytrance duo of Avi Nissim and Lior Perlmutter, whose touring career dates back to the group's 1989 precursor project SFX and its formal launch in the early 1990s. Based out of the Tel Aviv scene that shaped Goa trance in the 1990s, the duo built their reputation through extensive live and DJ appearances at trance festivals across Israel, Europe and India, carrying the psychedelic sound born in Goa to a global audience.
Their 1997 album Dancing Galaxy became a genre-defining release, and tracks such as People Can Fly and Mahadeva remain staples in psytrance DJ sets decades after release. Astral Projection released material through Trust in Trance Records, Phonokol, Transient Records and TIP Records, labels that anchored the Israeli psytrance movement, and later through Suntrip Records and Iboga Records.
The group compiled its own mix work on the 2000 album In the Mix, reflecting the set-building approach that underpinned their live shows. Over more than three decades of appearances, Astral Projection maintained a touring schedule that took them through the European festival circuit and the trance strongholds of South America and Asia, cementing a lineage that traces directly back to the genre's Goa origins.
