About Alex Bau

Alex Bau is a German techno DJ and producer who built his early reputation with five-hour-plus sets at Libella, a club in his native southeastern Bavarian region that also launched the career of DJ Hell in the 1980s. That residency established Bau's reputation for total commitment to his craft, a quality that has followed him through a career spanning almost two decades.

He runs his own label, Credo, through which he has released material described within the scene as among the darkest and most distinctive in contemporary techno, and his back catalogue includes releases on CLR, Cocoon and Sleaze. Bau's productions and DJ sets are built around a consistent search for what he has called the “holy bass drop,” an approach that runs through both his club performances and his studio work.

His touring schedule has included stretches across South America, among other regions, keeping him active on the international techno circuit well beyond his German home base. Bau's combination of a long-running club residency, a dedicated label and sustained festival and club touring has made him a recognized name within the harder, more austere end of the European techno scene.
