Misstress Barbara
Misstress Barbara, born Barbara Bonfiglio in Catania, Italy, moved to Montreal at age eight and began DJing in 1996, becoming one of the first female superstar techno DJs and a fixture of Montreal's Piknic Électronik series. She founded the label Relentless in 1999, renaming it ITURNEM in 2003 to avoid a naming conflict with a UK company, and released the mix albums Relentless Beats Vol. 1 and Vol.
2 on Moonshine Records in 2001 and 2002, alongside two further mix albums for the Trust the DJ series. She debuted a live band show at a sold-out Club Soda in Montreal in 2009, repeating the performance there in 2010 and staging her Many Shades of Grey live show at SAT in 2012, and that same year she sang 'The Right Time' at Parliament Hill during Canada Day celebrations. Her early track 'Never Could Have Your Heart' was licensed for the Rockstar Games title Midnight Club II, extending her reach beyond club culture.
Misstress Barbara continues to headline events including Montreal's Igloofest, with a DJ mix recorded there in January 2026, sustaining a techno DJ and producer career now stretching close to three decades.
