Headroom
Headroom is the performing name of Adam Metcalfe, a South African psytrance and tech-psy DJ and producer who has spent more than two decades refining a distinctive tech-psy sound built on warm, gateway-style psytrance. He also performs non-psy, techier material under the same Headroom moniker, a dual approach he has discussed in interviews as a way to keep his DJ sets adaptable across different rooms and crowds.
His debut album, released roughly fourteen years into his career, remains cited by genre press as a benchmark release that continues to influence the psytrance scene. Headroom records for Iboga Records, a label closely tied to South Africa's global psytrance export scene, and his tracks have appeared in the label's ongoing radio series, including a February 2022 Iboga Records Series episode built around his album Acid Trip Advisor.
He has performed internationally, including a booking at Timeless Festival, and continues to tour as a live-set DJ within the trance universe, with his SoundCloud archive documenting sets recorded at events such as Origin Festival. Metcalfe's globally travelled touring schedule and characterful performance style have kept him a requested name on the international psytrance festival circuit.
